Red Eye Presents:

Red Eye 2025 Community Celebration

Saturday, March 1, 2025

SAVE THE DATE

In the past three years—since beginning to hold events in Red Eye’s space in the Focus Arts Building—our parties have marked key moments in the space transition, as well as Red Eye’s 40th anniversary last year. In 2025, we are settling into a rhythm with a regular annual celebration: a chance to gather with community, celebrate the work of artists, and join the stream of sustenance that will hold our work over the coming year. Mark your calendars to attend the community celebration on Saturday, March 1, and read below for some ways you can take part!

CALL FOR PERFORMANCES

Red Eye invites ideas for short (1-2 minutes!) low- to no-tech performance moments that will unfold over the duration of the event—performance offerings to/for/with/alongside Red Eye at this moment!

We were interested in reiterating the short-format performances from the 40th anniversary celebration last year, and this year we asked three Red Eye artists to review proposals and shape the evening: José A. Luis, Sharon Picasso, and Ritika Ganguly.

The theme is open but we are looking for proposals that are grounded in this time, this place, this community. Inter/anti/post/transdisciplinary welcome. Solos or collaborations are welcome but keep it simple!

Parameters:

  • Performances should be no longer than 120 seconds. We’re serious!

  • The space will be generally lit, and we will have one microphone and an aux cable. Any other sound or lighting should be self-contained within the piece, and operated by you or a collaborator. Accordingly, there will be no tech rehearsal and we are not providing a technician to run cues. You can also forgo these elements. Again, keep it simple!

  • Performances will happen in a few different sets, in the center of the space. Plan to be flexible!

  • You should be available from 6-11 pm on Saturday, March 1.

This celebration is, in part, a fundraiser, so we are asking for these micro-performances as donations in support of Red Eye; there is no payment for participation. However, in thanks for your contribution, in addition to receiving a comp ticket to the event, artists will receive a code for 2-for-1 tickets to all Red Eye productions (does not include curated rentals) for New Works 4 Weeks 2025. Please note that, while we are seeking a critical mass of micro-performances, we likely won’t be able to feature all of the artists who express interest in this call; but we hope everyone will join us for the celebration regardless! We truly appreciate your interest and your support of Red Eye, in the many forms it takes.

Timeline:

  • Submit your interest via Google form by February 10

    • Name & contact info

    • What is your connection to Red Eye?

    • 1-3 sentences about what you want to do. (Quick notes are fine, no need to spend a lot of time on this!)

  • We’ll respond by February 17

If you have any questions about this event, any accessibility requests, or you would like to submit in a different format, please email us at staff@redeyetheater.org.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

We are also looking for volunteers to support this event! If you are willing to take on small- to medium-sized tasks between now and the event on March 1, please reach out and we will find a way for you to plug in. In particular, we could still use help with:

  • Decor planning/fabrication: including but not limited to designing signage, making a slideshow, photo booth, general festive space treatments

  • Errand-running in the days before, day of, and day after: picking up food and supplies, borrowing and returning other party items

We also have a sign-up sheet for volunteer shifts during the event. Areas we can use help with include:

  • Space setup

  • Box office/check-in

  • Refilling food/drink

  • Monitoring the silent auction and receiving (not soliciting) donations

  • Cleanup

Volunteers will receive a comp ticket to the party if desired, and this is a great way to support making light work with many hands! Sign up via the form below, or send us a message at staff@redeyetheater.org with any questions.

CALL FOR SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS

Once again we will be organizing a silent auction, with a variety of offerings from Red Eye community focused on experiences! Past items have included: concert tickets, photo sessions, clay dates, glass blowing workshops, cooking and singing experiences, gift cards for books and sex toys, and many types of bodywork.

If you would like to donate an item to the silent auction, share info with us via the form below. Or if you have a connection to a local business, organization, practitioner, etc. who you think would be a good fit, please reach out to staff@redeyetheater.org. This is a really effective and fun way to support!
