According to multiple Shamans, Naomi Ko is in a 20-year curse and that her family has been cursed for generations. Naomi investigates the root of the curse and attempts to break it in this live and immersive multimedia one woman show that weaves comedy, film, and an ancient Korean drinking game.
About Naomi Ko (writer and performer): Naomi Ko is a Korean American writer, actor, and filmmaker from Minnesota who also happens to be cursed. She’s totally chill with her cursed existence that she created a one-woman-show and a TV series about it. Naomi’s previous credits include her pilot, Nice, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival. You’ve seen her perform around town. Naomi’s a 2023 Sundance Women to Watch x Adobe Fellow, a 2022 Sundance Episodic Lab Fellow, a Bush Leadership Fellow, and more. The TV adaptation of The 20-Year Curse was selected for the 2022 Sundance Episodic Lab.
Kat Evasco (director): Kat Evasco is queer immigrant from the Philippines, and is an award-winning writer, theatermaker, filmmaker, and cultural strategist committed to honoring and celebrating the experiences of immigrants, women and LGBTQ communities. Evasco was recently awarded the Gerbode Foundation Theater Awards (2022) and the Kenneth Rainin New & Experimental Works (NEW) Program Grant (2020) towards the premiere of her new play Be Like Water produced by Brava Theater in San Francisco. Building on the success of her autobiographical one-woman show Mommy Queerest co-written by John Caldon, Evasco supports artists to produce solo shows. Evasco’s solo theater projects include directing Prieto by Yosimar Reyes and Not My First Pandemic by Cesar Cadabes, which received Best One Man Show and All About Solo Critics Award at United Solo Festival 2021. Most recently, she co-directed Rag Head: An American Story by Sundeep Morrison, winner of Best Drama at the 2022 United Solo Festival.
