Closing out her time as Red Eye's OMNIVERS Artist in Residence, Marcela Michelle continues her transdisciplinary research into concepts of Pointillism, Parallax, and Phenomenology as applied to Dance and Performance. A multidisciplinary team of artists assembled and led by Michelle will be engaging in simultaneous creation, available to each other's processes and choreographies. The experiment of simultaneous creation, including technical and design elements as leading efforts on the same plane as text and choreography, sits alongside the experiment of choreographing choreographers. About the Artists
Marcela Michelle
Marcela Michelle is a transdisciplinary artist/facilitator/producer living and working on Mni Sota Makoce. Her expansive practice engages a wide array of mediums and disciplines. She is a 2023-2025 Jerome Hill Artist Fellow (Combined Artistic Fields), a 2020-2022 HTT Teaching Artist in Residence, a 2019 Mentee of the National Institute for Directing and Ensemble Creation, and is currently the Resident Dramaturg for DOMA Dance Theater, Festival Co-Producer at Red Eye Theater, and a member of Actor’s Equity. Choreographic Residencies - Rosy Simas Danse 331 Studio (2022), Red Eye Theater OMNIVERS (2024-2026), DOMA Dance Theater (2026). Presentations - Walker Art Center’s Choreographer’s Evening (2022), Red Eye Theater’s NW4W (2021, 2024), 20% Theatre Company’s QStage: New Works Series (2017, 2023), Queer Voices Out Loud Out Here (2026), Queertopia (2016). Artistic Direction - LIghtning Rod (Co-AD 2018-2024), 20% Theatre (2019-2022).
Pedra Pepa
Pedra Pepa is a Venezuelan raised, Minneapolis based queer dance/performance maker. She is a Jerome Hill Artist Fellow (Dance), McKnight Fellow (Choreography), and former OMNIVERS Red Eye Artist in Residence. Pepa and Michelle have journeyed alongside each other for almost a decade now, first paired together in a shared evening for 20% Theatre's QStage: New Works Series in 2017, then collaborating on Lightning Rod's commission from Guthrie's Dowling Studio body fail body in 2019. Pedra was also a key collaborator and performer in Michelle's MILFFEEDSBABYDEER100%Real at Red Eye in 2024.
Terry Hempfling
Terry Hempfling is a multidisciplinary artist, choreographer, DJ, and embodiment witch. Terry is a new collaborator for Marcela. Joined together by their mutual love for and collaborations with Rachel Jendrewski, Marcela and Terry are taking this opportunity to attune to each other's artistry and processes before they head to New York this September where Hempfling will be performing in a staged reading of Jendrewski's encyclopedia, directed by Michelle as part of the 2026 Kaatsbaan festival.
Brandon Anderson Musser
Brandon Anderson Musser is the Producing Artistic and Music Director of Doma Dance Theatre, where Marcela works as Resident Dramaturg. Brandon has also designed sound for Michelle's MILFFEEDSBABYDEER100%Real, where he created a unique original soundscore that extended through the duration of the piece, as well as designing her WIP showing of sissy/fuss at Doma, and Nervous Theatre's Dancing Animals, which also featured Michelle as a dancer and singer. Additional credits include composition and design for Taja Will Ensemble and technical work for Hatch Dance.
Keila Anali Saucedo
Keila Anali Saucedo is a Chicago based playwright. Michelle directed both the one act WIP and the full length premiere of Saucedo's Brujeria for Beginners for 20% Theatre Company in 2018 and 2021 respectively. They collaborated again at Lightning Rod many times, including body fail body and the annual intensive, before ultimately serving as Artistic Co-Directors of the company. They also worked together in a number of capacities at Pangea World Theatre, including the National Institute for Directing and Ensemble Creation (2019), and Saucedo's Only I (2018), as well as an iconic pop up performance for Daddy (2018).
Juliet Irving
Juliet Irving is an interdisciplinary artist, designer, poet, and choreographer from Monetta, South Carolina. Irving and Michelle were in cohort together at Red Eye in 2024, and developed further fondness and curiosity in researching Emily Gastineau's 0, 1, group, ∞. They look forward to exploring direct collaboration in this concentrated way.
Yoni Tamang
Yoni Tamang is a multidisciplinary artist and health practitioner based in Portland, Oregon. Yoni and Marcela have worked together on many projects over the years for Lightning Rod, including working together as Artistic Co-DIrectorsof the annual program, and collaborating on the Guthrie commissioned body fail body and Northern Spark commissioned Sur la Tableau, 20% Theatre Company (QStage 2017 and 2022) , and various other projects in the twin cities.
