Chicago artists Erin Kilmurray and Kara Brody are thrilled to bring their collaborative practice to the Twin Cities, hosting a drop-in class at Red Eye Theater on Sunday, April 26.
Part dance practice, part creative play, this 90-min workshop is powered by their long form duet Knockout – a fierce contemporary work moving through high-femme silhouettes, boy-ish horseplay, toothful camp, and athletic, anti-hero energy.
In this class, Kilmurray and Brody weave release-based, contemporary dance fundamentals with compositional experiments in tension, proximity, play, and negotiations of power. Participants can expect a queer-affirming and community-motivated atmosphere.
Recognized as “two of Chicago’s most captivating performers” (Chicago Tribune), their long-form duet, Knockout, will be presented as a Minnesota premiere this summer at Red Eye Theater (July 11-12, 2026).
Kilmurray (erinkilmurray.com) is a choreographer + space-maker whose creative practice collides contemporary dance, social practice, and nightlight forms. She is a US Artist Fellow in Dance (2024) and is the chief visionary of legendary, all-body-loving, queer performance project, The Fly Honey Show. Brody (karabrody.dance) is a Bessie nominated performer and collaborator uplifting the work of artists Faye Driscoll, Lucky Plush Productions, among others. Her work spans genres in contemporary, commercial, and experimental dance forms as a performer, educator, and space-maker.
Both artists have deep roots in the Midwest, where they have been creating, performing, and building ecosystems in Chicago for a combined 30 years. The true hope here is to create deep connections within the vibrant Great Lakes regional performing arts communities. Come twirl!
