I stayed. I even slept in. I was even running late. We met. We saw outside—the energy, the sun, the heat, the faces we didn’t want to see and the faces we hoped to see. We wanted everything and nothing.

Throughout the day we left and returned. We laid down, we drank water, we stayed quiet. We almost cried in front of each other—I secretly wished this would have happened—we felt safe. At night, we departed from each other. We sought rest alone. We knew we had to wake up and work the next day. Still, we wanted more.
